FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed are a self-diagnosing FMCW radar level gauge and a method for providing self-diagnosing with a radar level gauge. Level gauge comprises a transceiver, a mixer and a signal propagating device connected to the transceiver via a signal propagating line. In addition, the gauge is equipped with a processor circuit and a filtering unit that provides a filtered signal at an intermediate frequency. Transceiver generates either a signal to perform a diagnostic sweep, which allows to detect, in the filtered signal at an intermediate frequency a reference echo signal from the signal propagating line, or a measurement sweep, which allows, in the filtered signal at intermediate frequency, to suppress the reference echo signal and detect the echo signal from the product surface. Processor circuit is designed to provide self-diagnosis of the radar level gauge, carried out on the basis of a reference echo signal, and determination of the distance to the product surface, carried out on the basis of an echo signal therefrom.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of measuring the distance to the product surface with a FMCW radar level gauge due to the possibility of detection, in the filtered signal at an intermediate frequency, of the reference echo signal characterising the distance to the boundary of the impedance jump.
