SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a radar level gauge comprising a reference reflector mounted at a known level in a tank. Disclosed level gauge is configured to control a reversible transfer from a fill level measurement mode to a control test mode in which it is able to determine, based on the reference echo generated by reflecting the transmitted electromagnetic signal from the reference reflector, a first verification level, and based on the echo signal resulting from the reflection of the transmitted electromagnetic signal from the surface of the product, a second verification level.
EFFECT: data obtained in this way allows the level gauge to determine the result of control testing, based at least on the values of the first and second verification levels, as well as the known level of the reference reflector.
