FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to spectrometry. This ion mobility spectrometry method includes the determination of the presence of ions in a sample having the first characteristic, and when it is determined that the sample contains ions having the first characteristic, the method further involves applying thermal energy together with the radio frequency electric field to the parent ions to produce daughter ions having the second characteristic to establish at least one type for the parent ions on the basis of the first characteristic and the second characteristic, where the application of thermal energy includes the heating of that region of the spectrometer, where the radiofrequency electric field is applied, and the specified area is heated more than other areas of the spectrometer.
EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of ion modification.
