SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the use of an ether compound (B) containing two or more ether groups for producing a solid catalyst component for the polymerization of olefins, comprising magnesium, titanium, halogen, carbonate compound (A) of the general formula (1): R1-CO-C(=O)-O-Z-O-R2 (1), where R1 and R2 represent a hydrocarbon group or a substituted hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, when R1 and R2 are the same or different, and Z is a connecting group that connects two oxygen atoms through a carbon atom or a carbon chain, where the ether compound (B) is a compound of the general formula (3) R7-O-CH2CR8R9CH2-O-R10 (3), where R8 and R9 represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a vinyl group, an alkenyl group having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkenyl group having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, an aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, a halogen-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, an alkylamino group, having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or a dialkylamino group having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, provided that R8 and R9 are the same or different and R7, and R10 represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a vinyl group, an alkenyl group having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, an aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, a halogen-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, or a substituted aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, when R7 and R10 are the same or different.
