SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radar technology and can be used in the construction of various radar or similar systems designed for navigation of aircraft (AC) using radio waves by locating and controlling the motion of the AC. Method for navigating the aircraft consists in using a reference map of the area, selecting a dimensional plot of the area located within the reference map, compiling a current map of the measurement section by cyclically measuring the inclined distances using a multipath measurement mode using radio waves, determining the difference of the results of multipath measurements on the current map, cyclic comparison of the current and reference maps to determine the terms of the proximity indicator, searching for the global extremum of the proximity indicator, determining the coordinates (planned coordinates and height) of the AC locations in the planned coordinates of the reference map, comparing the coordinates of the locations of the AC, determining the direction, speed and acceleration of the movement of the AC, calculating the signal of the trajectory correction movement and controlling the movement of the AC by correcting its location, using the fact that the determination of the proximity index components at which a global extremum is reached, after the first determination of the proximity index arguments at which the first global extremum is reached, is produced using the sliding window method.
