SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of biotechnology. Invention is the Picea pungens Engelm. mother plants selecting method, producing seed progeny with the different genetic material stability levels, includes the phenotypically healthy Picea pungens Engelm. mother plants seeds collection and germination, from each sprout root of 0.5–1 cm long, the constantly-pressed micro specimen production, analysis of at least 19 (an odd number) micro specimens and of each micro specimen at least 300 cells according to each micro specimen following cytogenetic parameters: “mitotic index with regard to the prophase stage”, “mitotic index without regard to the prophase stage”, “% of cells in the prophase”, “% of cells in the metaphase”, “% of cells in the anaphase", “% of cells in the telophase”, “level of the mitosis pathologies”; obtained of cytogenetic parameters values comparison with the mutable or weakly-mutable groups values; if more than 3 indicators were in the weakly mutable group, then the sprout is referred to the weakly mutable group, and if 3 or less, then to the mutable one; if at least half of the sprouts were in the weakly mutable group, the mother plant genetic material stability level is evaluated as high, if less than as low.

EFFECT: invention allows to select the Picea pungens Engelm. maternal copies in a relatively fast and simple way.
