SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biotechnology. Invention is a method for selecting maternal plants Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark., producing seed offspring with a different level of stability of genetic material, including collection and germination of seeds of phenotypically healthy mother plants Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark., preparation of each sprout 0.5–1 cm long from the root of the constantly-pressed micropreparation, analysis of the following cytogenetic parameters of each micropreparation: “mitotic activity” as the ratio of the number of dividing cells to the total number of counted cells (%), “level of pathologies of mitosis” as the ratio of the number of cells with mitosis disorders to the total number of dividing cells (%), “spectrum of pathologies of mitosis” as the ratio of the number of cells with a fission violation to the number of dividing cells with aberrations (%), “level of cells with residual nucleoli” at the stage of metaphase-telophase mitosis as the ratio of the number of cells with residual nucleoli to the total number of cells at the indicated stages (%), “average surface area of single nucleoli” (in mcm2); where analysis of at least 19 micro-preparations and at least 500 cells of each micro-preparation is carried out, “average surface area of single nucleoli” is determined by 200 cells per each micropreparation, the obtained values of cytogenetic indicators are compared with the values for a mutable or weakly-abutting group, indicator “mitotic activity” relates to a mutable group with a value of not more than 8 % “level of pathologies of mitosis” – with a value of more than 2.5 %, “spectrum of pathologies of mitosis” – more than 50 %, “level of cells with residual nucleoli” – more than 8 %, “surface area of single nucleoli” – at a value of at least 76 mcm2, otherwise the indicators relate to the weakly-abutting group; if more than 2 indicators were in a mutable group, then the sprout is also referred to as a mutable group, and if 2 or less, then to weakly-abutting; if at least half of the seedlings are in a weakly-abutting group, the level of stability of the genetic material of the mother plant is assessed as high, if less – how low.

EFFECT: invention allows to accelerate the selection of Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark. maternal plants producing seed progeny with a high level of stability of the genetic material.
