Method of transporting an empty railway freight platform involves loading an empty platform onto the cargo area of the lower platform with a longitudinal inclination. Wheels of one of the wheelsets of the empty railway freight platform are partially immersed in the longitudinal grooves of the deck floor of the lower platform, and both wheelsets of the second carriage are fixed in a raised position relative to the cargo platform of the lower platform by means of rotary lodges. Apparatus for carrying out a method for transporting an empty railway cargo platform includes rotatable lodges (14) mounted at one end of lower platform (1), the bearing surfaces of which repeat the profile of the wheels. Upper surface of each lodgment, when positioned in a horizontal position, is at the same level as the surface of the cargo platform of the lower platform, at the second end of which, located on the opposite side of the lodgment, in its flooring, longitudinal grooves are made to partially penetrate the wheels of the wheel pair of the empty railway freight platform.
