SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding an array of samples. Entropy code is a set of subsets of slices in an entropy-encoded data stream, with each subset of slices containing entropy-encoded data for a corresponding different portion of the sample array, and at the same time different portions form the rows of blocks of the array of samples, and each row has the same number of blocks. Entropy-encode each subset of slices along the corresponding entropy coding trajectory running in parallel along rows of blocks using the first probability estimate. Initialize the first probability estimate before encoding the first block of the first line corresponding to the subset of slices, based on the second probability estimate of the second block of the second line. Moreover, the second line is spatially adjacent to the first line and corresponds to the previous subset of slices. Moreover, the entropy encoding of the previous subset of slices begins before the entropy encoding of the mentioned subset of slices. Adapt the first probability estimate along the entropy coding path using the previously decoded portion of the slice subset.
EFFECT: technical result is to reduce coding delay.
