FIELD: image data processing.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to technology for low latency image encoding/decoding. Proposed is a decoder for restoring an image from a data stream whereto the image has been encoded in units of slices whereto the image has been divided. The decoder is configured to decode slices from a data stream in accordance with the order of slices, and the decoder reacts to a segment of the syntactic element in the current slice from said slices so as to decode the current slice in accordance with one of at least two modes. In accordance with the first one of said at least two modes, the current slice is decoded from the data stream using context-adaptive entropy decoding, including the output of contexts through the boundaries of slices, continuous updating of context symbol probabilities, and initialisation of symbol probabilities depending on the stored states of symbol probabilities of a previously decoded slice, and prediction decoding through the boundaries of slices. In accordance with the second mode, the current slice is decoded from the data stream using context-adaptive entropy decoding with context output limitation so as not to cross the boundaries of slices, continuous updating of context symbol probabilities and initialisation of symbol probabilities independently of the previously decoded slice, and prediction decoding with prediction decoding limitation so as not to cross the boundaries of slices.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of encoding/decoding images.
