FIELD: encoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding a sampling array. The entropy encoding of the current part of a pre-determined entropy slice is based not only on corresponding probability estimates of the pre-determined entropy slice, which are adapted using the previously encoded part of the pre-determined entropy slice, but also on probability estimates that are used in the entropy encoding of spatially adjacent entropy slices of the previous entropy slice in its neighboring part. By means of this, probability estimates used in entropy encoding adapt to actual statistical information of a symbol more closely, thus reducing the reduction in encoding efficiency usually caused by lower latency concepts. Temporary relationships are used additionally or alternatively.
EFFECT: reduction in encoding latency.
