SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of video processing and, in particular, for interpolating a fractional sample used in motion compensation. Interpolation of fractional samples is applied to the extracted samples to generate fractional samples. Fractional sample interpolation comprises a plurality of filtering operations, where all filtered results from filtering operations are truncated to a predetermined bit depth which does not depend on the bit depth of samples stored in reference image memory. In the first and second interpolations of fractional samples, a filter with a finite impulse response (FIR) with 8 taps is used, having at least the following to generate a quarter sample pel: [-1, 4, -11, 40, 40, -11, 4, -1].
EFFECT: technical result is to provide effective motion compensation for interframe prediction, which has low complexity and high accuracy.
