SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video processing and, in particular, to fractional sample interpolation during motion compensation. Said technical result is achieved by fractional sample interpolation is applied to extracted samples to generate fractional samples. Fractional sample interpolation comprises a plurality of filtering operations, where all filtered results from filtering operations are truncated to a predetermined bit depth which does not depend on the bit depth of samples stored in reference image memory. Truncation of each filtered result includes truncated results towards minus infinity.

EFFECT: technical result is to provide effective motion compensation for interframe prediction, which has low complexity and high accuracy.
