FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in fuel supply systems of internal combustion engines (ICE). Methods are provided for detecting wear between the piston and the cylinder of a high pressure pump, as a result of which the excessive amount of fuel can flow from the compression chamber of the pump. Proposed methods are based on a comparison of the target injection pump injection rate, determined on the basis of the injection pump performance model programmed in the electronic control unit and taking into account a number of physical phenomena and control test data of a real injection pump, with the actual speed of fuel injection by the nozzle, in order to determine whether the amount of fuel flowing into the gap between the piston and the injection pump cylinder exceeds a predetermined value.
EFFECT: technical result is improving the accuracy and reliability of detecting abnormal leakage in the pump without the use of additional devices during engine operation and the possibility of improving the characteristics of the pump.
