FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing N-(naphthalen-2-yl)benzamidine of formula I by reacting substituted aryl amine with benzonitrile in the presence of an anhydrous aluminum chloride catalyst while heating, followed by separation of the end product, wherein the substituted aryl amine used is naphthalene-2-amine, the process is carried out in molar ratio of benzonitrile to naphthalene-2-amine and anhydrous aluminum chloride of 1:1:1, wherein catalyst is added in portions as homogeneity of mixture is achieved, after addition of whole mass of catalyst, mixture is quickly reduced to 180 °C and synthesis is terminated, and finished product is separated by acid-base reprecipitation from aqueous solutions.
EFFECT: simple synthesis with high output of synthesis of low-toxic compound of formula I, which can be used in medicine, for example, as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent with antimicrobial activity.
