SUBSTANCE: exhaust control device for an internal combustion engine in the present invention includes: SCR catalyst, including transition metal ions for NOx reduce in exhaust with NH3 as a reducing agent, registration means for determining the temperature of the SCR catalyst and a heater intended for heating the SCR catalyst. When NOx does not enter the SCR catalyst and the temperature recorded by the recording means is lower than the first temperature, that is, the temperature causing the return of the valence of the transition metal ions, the heater is controlled so that the SCR catalyst is heated to or above the first temperature and that the SCR catalyst is maintained at or above the first temperature for a prescribed period of time in order to achieve a return of the valence of transition metal ions converted to a degraded state.
EFFECT: exhaust gas control device for an internal combustion engine is proposed.
