FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing ceramic foam filters for purification of liquid aluminum and its alloys. It can be used in metallurgy, foundry. Three-dimensional polyurethane mesh is impregnated with a slurry which contains a quartz nature filler in the form of finely ground (less than 50 mcm) potsherd ceramic shells of molten steel cast on molten models, water and liquid glass, then dried, burned polyurethane at 450–500 °C. A slurry of the same quality composition is applied to the workpiece in layers and intermediate drying of each layer at 65 °C for 30 minutes.
EFFECT: production of quartz-based ceramic foam filters with sufficient resistance to temperature effect of aluminum melt, which does not change its volume during heating, excluding sintering operation during firing of finished product, preserving operability at possible chemical interaction of SiO2 with aluminum from melt and excluding harmful effect of iron on processed aluminum melt.
