SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device for forming electrophotographic images and a cartridge detachably mounted in a main unit of an image forming device. Disclosed electrophotographic image forming apparatus comprises: a main assembly including: an output member for transmitting driving force, a process cartridge detachably mounted in said main assembly, wherein said process cartridge includes: a photosensitive drum, a developing roller configured to come into contact and be arranged with a gap from said photosensitive drum, input element for receiving a driving force for rotation of said developing roller by means of connection with said output element; a control mechanism for changing the relative position between said input element and said output element in a state where said process cartridge is mounted in the main assembly, wherein control mechanism is configured to: change, in response to said arrangement of developing roller with a gap from said photosensitive drum, said relative position to position, in which said input element and said output element can be disconnected, and change, in response to said approximation of developing roller to said photosensitive drum, said relative position to position, in which said input element and said output element can be connected to each other.
