FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a chemical composition containing an aromatic compound α in mass concentration B in terms of total weight of chemical composition, comprising a. feeding the following reaction components: i. chemical composition containing the following: a) aromatic compound α with mass concentration A in terms of total weight of chemical composition and b) an olefin in an amount of about 50 to about 99.99 wt. %, based on the total weight of the chemical composition, where olefin b) is C4-C10olefin, and ii. an acid selected from an acidic ionic liquid containing imidazolium; and b. reacting components to obtain a chemical composition containing an aromatic compound α with mass concentration B in terms of total weight of chemical composition; wherein concentration B is less than concentration A; Note here that concentration B ranges from 0.1 to 0.4 ppm.

EFFECT: removing aromatic impurities from the alkene stream using an acid catalyst, such as an acidic ionic liquid.
