FIELD: fire safety.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fire-fighting equipment, in particular to a method of making pyrotechnic aerosol-forming composition for generating fire-extinguishing mixture used in charges for fire-extinguishing aerosol generators during volumetric fire extinguishing in closed sealed rooms. Method of preparing pyrotechnic composition for volumetric fire extinguishing involves preparation of initial components and an solution of iditol in ethyl alcohol for successive mixing, wherein 61–65 wt% potassium nitrate is mixed with 2.5–3.0 wt% iditol in form of 50 % solution in ethyl alcohol, and then powders are added, wt%: 24–26 dicyandiamide and 8.5–10.0 iditol, obtained granulated mixture is dried to content of volatile substances and moisture of not more than 0.6 wt%. Granulation of the ready mixture is carried out on 1–2 mm mesh sieve and finishing drying combined with waxing on perforated trays in layers of 2–3 cm, which are blown by air at temperature of 30–45 °C to controlled content of volatile and moisture. Iditol is introduced in form of 50 % solution in ethyl alcohol and in powder form in doses in ratio of 1:3 respectively.
EFFECT: method reduces drying time of the composition to increase flowability and improves pressingability of charges therefrom, as well as improving the main application parameters while reducing the amount of hazardous substances in the extinguishing gas-aerosol mixture.
