SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical fire extinguishing agents, and more specifically to volumetric fire extinguishing agents, the extinguishing composition of which, during combustion, generates gas-aerosol-forming chemically active substances, combustion inhibitors, and can be used to suppress fires in a closed volume. The aerosol-forming composition for extinguishing fires includes an oxidizing agent - potassium nitrate, a combustible binder - iditol, introduced in the form of a powder and in the form of an alcohol solution in a ratio of 3.5:1, and optionally dicyandiamide. Additionally, the composition contains a mixture of ammonium chloride with thiourea. The components are contained in the following ratio, wt.%: oxidizing agent 70-75, iditol 9-12, dicyandiamide 0-12, ammonium chloride 5-11, thiourea 5-11.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of volumetric fire extinguishing.
