FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to medical microbiology, and aims at determining the type of antimicrobial action of pharmacological substances in the process of studying their antimicrobial activity. To determine the type of antimicrobial action of the compound possessing antimicrobial activity, the optical density of the culture fluid in amount of 1 ml is analysed in sterile cuvettes at wavelength of 600 nm. Optical density of the culture medium is determined in the presence of a strain of Streptococcus pyogenes 19615 ATCC or Staphylococcus aureus 6538-P, cultured at minimum suppressing concentrations in amount of 1 ml and with two-, four- and six-fold increase in the minimum suppressing concentrations of the test compound. Further, the relationship between the optical density of the test compound and the strain of bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes 19615 ATCC or Staphylococcus aureus 6538-P is zeroed based on the optical density of the test compound. Then, the obtained optical density of microorganisms cultivated in the presence of the test compound is used to calculate the optical density of the culture medium using the following formula: where KD is the coefficient of optical density of the culture medium, D is the optical density of the culture fluid when the microorganisms are cultivated in the presence of different concentrations of the antimicrobial compound, n is the number of the investigated concentrations of the compound. Value KD with test compound more than 1 indicates that the test compound has a bacteriostatic type of action on the analysed microorganism, if less than 1 – the test compound has a bactericidal action on the analysed microorganism.
EFFECT: use of the invention provides fast and high-quality determination of the type of antimicrobial action of biologically active compounds by using a small amount of nutrient medium with a sufficiently short time interval of 24 hours.
