FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of aluminum in electrolysis cells with a burnt anode. Method of protecting coal part of anode from oxidation involves application of alumina on bottom and side walls of anode by immersion of anode in vessel with colloidal solution of alumina with particle size of 3–5 mm with formation of gap of 5–10 cm between side surfaces of walls, anode bottom and walls of container and exposure to anode for 8–12 s with ultrasound from 2–5 atm and frequency of 18 kHz by sources with power of 5 to 10 kW, which are installed in side walls and bottom of capacity on outer side.

EFFECT: reduced oxidation of anode in air current and CO/CO2 and formation of irregularities in the form of anode soles in the form of frozen electrolyte crusts and coal foam particles when the cold anode is installed in the electrolytic cell.
