FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering of inorganic substances, specifically to a method of producing uranium tetrafluoride by a dry method, which can be used in production of uranium hexafluoride or uranium metal. Method comprises mixing uranium dioxide powders with ammonium bifluoride, loading a mixture of powders into a closed container with restricted air access, on the inner surface of which carbon-graphite fabric with a deposited layer of oxide or fluoride of an alkali-earth metal is deposited, placing said container into another container with a gap, filling the gap with the fill from the coal graphite material and heat treatment of the containers in the air atmosphere at the uranium double-stage synthesis stage, carried out first at a temperature higher than the melting point of ammonium bifluoride, but below its boiling point, and then at temperature exceeding boiling point of ammonium bifluoride by 10–20 °C, and at stage of decomposition of double uranium salt to uranium tetrafluoride, carried out at temperature higher than the beginning of oxidation of coal-graphite material, but lower than melting point of uranium tetrafluoride.

EFFECT: invention reduces content of impurities in the obtained uranium tetrafluoride, reduces corrosion of the used equipment and prolongs its use.
