SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analysis and processing of digital images, more precisely video control of quality of identical objects. Method comprises detection of defects in said periodic structure with quasi-constant period of repetition length of said objects along 2 perpendicular axes x, y, one of which coincides with direction of movement of said periodic structure relative to scanning zone of optical unit of video system, which switches optical data of periodic structure into digital form, and then in real time on-line procedure of subtracting values of intensity parameter or brightness of image elements of objects, spaced from each other by the length of period and related to images of said objects in neighboring periods, on any of 2 said axes using predetermined threshold of allowance for differences of said values of intensity parameter or brightness for making decision on presence or absence of object defect.
