FIELD: test equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for evaluation of strength and deformation characteristics of material of ring from brittle materials, mainly ceramic ones, during tensile test by successive creation in twelve zones of tensile stresses as close to pure tension as possible. Elastic tension testing device comprises two extendable half-discs and associated tie-rods for application of tensile force. Sliding half-disks are connected to each other on one side of connector by two lugs connected by fasteners. In half-disk grooves there are detachable spacers with collar. Antifriction gaskets are installed between ring and spacers. Test method of rings for tension involves ring loading by means of sliding semi-disks, measurement of deformations in the form of diagram "load-deformation", calculation of modulus of elasticity and ultimate strength in circumferential direction. Loading is carried out step-by-step and successively in 12 uniformly distributed zones of the ring with load increase by 10–15 % at each loading stage and at break of the ring the ultimate strength of the ring material in the circumferential direction is determined as per the calculation formula. Calculated ring deformation in each of 12 ring zones is used to calculate modulus of elasticity of ring material.
EFFECT: considerable increase of accuracy and informativity in determination of strength and deformation characteristics of material of rings from brittle materials at tension, as close as possible to uniaxial tension state of pure tension.
