FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of forgings from die steel of 5CNM type intended for production of dies for hot forming. During steel melting, calcium is added to it in amount of 0.0005 to 0.003 %. Then forging is performed, at which before the first carry-over the ingot is heated in furnace to temperature 1,200–1,220 °C with specific exposure at calculation τspec=1.7–2.5 min per mm of cross-section defined by size of ingot middle part. Before the second carry-over, the forged piece is heated in furnace to 1,200÷1,220 °C with specific exposure at calculation τspec=0.8–1.3 min per mm of cross-section defined by the size of middle part of the forged piece. Then, produced forged piece is thermally treated.
EFFECT: high resistance to brittle fracture of forged piece during their manufacturing.
