FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to provision of explosion safety of vehicles at the stage of development of new grades of nitrocellulose powder. Method for determining the explosion-proof height of a layer of nitrocellulose powder for cylindrical and rectangular apparatus includes conducting tests on a manometric unit in a constant-pressure high-pressure vessel of 37 cm3, determination by mathematical processing of obtained pressure-time relationship of parameters of their combustion, having the greatest impact on safe and critical height of powder layers, with subsequent obtaining of dependence of explosion-proof and critical height of powder layer in amount of 150–200 g of combustion parameters using semi-closed cylindrical containers with diameters of 100 and 300 mm or rectangular shape with minimum side of 100 and 300 mm without large-scale full-scale tests.

EFFECT: method provides explosion-proof operating conditions of process apparatuses of final phases of production: drying, sacking and sealing by excluding transition of combustion into explosion at accidental fires in them.
