FIELD: motor vehicle industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to controlling a car engine using re-ignition in a car ignition system to detect formation of deposits on an ignition plug. Disclosed are a method and system for detecting scale deposits on an ignition plug. Method includes direction of current flow to primary winding of ignition coil of ignition system during period of current flow through primary winding of ignition coil in response to command of current flow through primary winding of ignition coil from controller, reduction of current flow for discharge of initial spark, and discharge of additional ignition spark. Method can additionally include selective generation of indication of recommendation on necessity of replacement of one or more ignition plugs of ignition system on the basis of primary current measured after period of current flow through primary winding of ignition coil.
EFFECT: provision of recommendations on replacement of spark plug on the basis of information on failure or deterioration of state, and not depending on preset period of time or degree of vehicle use.
