FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a heat-insulating and fire-retardant composition and a method for production thereof and can be used as a means of providing protection of surfaces and structures of articles, construction materials, buildings, other structures from temperature action, including high-temperature action, for example, fires, open flame, heat fluxes of external medium. Heat-insulating and fire-retardant composition contains liquid glass, silica sol, refractory clay, kaolin, hollow glass microspheres of sodium-borosilicate glass, ethyl silicate, plasticizer of antipyrene trichloroethylphosphate or trichlorobutylphosphate, zirconium oxide, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, quartz fiber and water at certain ratio of components. Composition is obtained by stirring to obtain a homogeneous mass, wherein glass microspheres are added portion-by-portion, mixing each portion with the obtained mixture by means of a mixer, which enables mixing in a downward direction.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a heat-insulating and fire-retardant composition having low coefficient of thermal conductivity, high heat resistance, resistance to atmospheric effects and vibration loads.
