FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of steels and alloys with low process plasticity, including high-speed steels. During casting, metal is subjected to intermittent cooling in the grinding zone and in the secondary cooling zone with alternation of periods of intensive cooling and periods of heating. During heating additional heat is supplied to ingot surface from external sources. In cooling periods, heat removal from ingot surface is performed at a rate of not more than 700 °C/min. Intermittent cooling is carried out up to completion temperature in the axial zone of the ingot of polymorphous transformations from the austenite phase into the mixture of alpha-phase and complex eutectic with primary and secondary carbides.
EFFECT: higher thickness of ingot layer, having higher process plasticity, and achievement lower level of internal stresses in this layer.
