FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an epoxy functional acrylic polymer containing copolymerised monomers: i) from about 10 to about 40 wt. % of one or more epoxy functional unsaturated monomers; ii) from about 10 to about 20 wt. % of one or more hydrophobic acrylic monomers and iii) from more than 50 to about 75 wt. % of at least one non-ionic monomer which differs from hydrophobic acrylic monomers (ii) and is selected from acrylic, vinyl or allyl monomers; wherein the weight percentage of each monomer is determined with respect to the total weight of the copolymerised monomers in the polymer; said polymer has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of more than 85 degrees Celsius; and the polymer has a calculated solubility parameter of about 9.20 to about 9.30 (cal/cm3)1/2, and further comprising from about 0.5 to about 12 wt. % vinyl aromatic monomer (iv) with respect to the total weight of the copolymerised monomers in the epoxy functional acrylic polymer. Invention also relates to a powder coating composition containing said epoxy functional acrylic polymer and one or more crosslinking agents for a polymer.

EFFECT: epoxy functional acrylic polymer provides high resistance to filament corrosion and corrosion in CASS test.
