FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to quantum electronics, to devices for generation of inhomogeneous profile of magnetic field. Atomic beam Zeeman retarder (ZR) comprises atomic beam source and nonuniform field shaping unit arranged along atomic beam propagation axis. ZR also includes in-series connected source of counter optical radiation and source of thermal atomic beam. Proposed device comprises detachable frame made from nonmagnetic material with its blades accommodating matrixes made of permanent magnets, which are connected by end connectors in two halves of ZR, while halves of ZR are connected in their turn by end connectors around ZR vacuum pipe.

EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of heat release and improvement of Zeeman retarder tuning.
