FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, in particular to protection of metal surface from secondary oxidation and protection of crystallizer at steel casting. Slag-forming mixture contains the following components, wt%: soluble sodium silicate 14–17, soluble sodium-potassium silicate 8–12, bauxite 5–8, magnesite 1–3, chamotte 3–5, fluoride concentrate 8–11, graphite 6–9, limestone 8–11, wollastonite – balance. Basicity of slag-forming mix corresponds to range of 0.7–0.85.
EFFECT: improvement of steel quality as a result of improvement of its macrostructure, reduction of contamination with non-metallic inclusions, reduction of quantity of surface defects due to improvement of lubrication and heat removal in the crystallizer, with reference to various groups of steels and types of CCM.
