FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to power optics and nanophotonics and a method of determining optical strength of a material surface. In implementing the method, the surface of the material at different points is subject to single irradiation with a pulse of powerful laser radiation with different energy density F, while detecting in each case the occurrence or non-occurrence of destruction of the surface of the material, induced by laser radiation. For each value of energy density, irradiation is carried out in an amount required from the point of view of using statistical methods, after which probability p of sample destruction is calculated. Obtained experimental data are used to construct a probability curve p(F). Further, using the Weibull-Gnedenko statistical distribution, optical strength Q of the material surface is determined upon single irradiation of the material.
EFFECT: high accuracy and simplification of the measurement method.
