FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used to produce porous casts from iron-based alloys. Iron-based melt superheated above liquidus temperature is poured into mold filled with granules. Granules are made of tin oxide (SnO2). Melting point of granules should be higher than melt heating temperature, density is higher than melt density, granules should not chemically interact with melt. After hardening, the ingot is removed from the mold and placed to dissolve the granules into a solvent. Solvent used is concentrated sulfuric or nitric acid.
EFFECT: expanded range of manufactured articles from foamed metals.
