FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy and can be used to obtain porous castings from magnesium or alloys based on it. The method for producing porous castings includes pouring a magnesium melt overheated above the liquidus temperature into a mold filled with granules that do not chemically interact with the magnesium melt, extracting the resulting casting from said mold and placing it in a solvent to dissolve said granules. The melting point of the said granules is higher than the heating temperature of the melt, and their density is higher than that of the magnesium melt. Sodium chloride is used as the granule material, and a 5-35% aqueous solution of acetic acid is used as a solvent. The use of a 5-35% aqueous solution of acetic acid as a solvent makes it possible to reduce the corrosion rate of magnesium in the solvent when the granules are dissolved.
EFFECT: improved surface cleanliness of porous magnesium castings.
