FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ultrasonic thickness gauging, supplemented by magnetic measurements. Method comprises measuring propagation time of shear ultrasonic wave and percentage of magnetic phase in deformed material of article made from austenitic grade steel and, using previously obtained data on ultrasonic wave propagation speed, percentage of magnetic phase in undamaged article material and coefficients obtained during testing of test specimens of article, thickness of deformed material is calculated.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of control.
