FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical distribution equipment. To control and limit damage caused by electric arcs in electrical distribution equipment, there is a cooling unit which uses a filter or other porous substrate to absorb energy from electric arc by-products. Cooling unit based on filter can be used with passive electric arc control device having chamber with specified size and shape to control and/or damp electric arcs, and ventilation openings for ejection of electric arc by-products into cooling unit of filter. Cooling filter has sufficiently high heat absorption capacity to cool electric arc by-products to safe temperature and to remove them inside the equipment cabinet.
EFFECT: technical result is improved method of controlling and limiting damages from electric arc.
