FIELD: nuclear industry.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus for monitoring alpha contamination of fuel elements comprises series-arranged loading module and module for unloading fuel elements, each of which includes a fixed frame with locating blocks, sensors of position of fuel elements, a measuring module located between the loading module and the unloading module, which includes units for detecting alpha radiation from the surface of fuel elements, pneumatic cylinders with position sensors of rods for supply of samples with an alpha radiation source. Loading module is equipped with a movable automated carriage with lodgments for supply of fuel elements to the measuring module and further to the unloading module. wherein loading and unloading modules are equipped with movable racks for fuel elements laying on modules and carriage supports. Samples with natural uranium isotopes are used as source of alpha radiation for tuning of measuring module.

EFFECT: invention enables automatic control of alpha contamination of the surface of fuel elements with extraction of metrological standardized characteristics.
