SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the nuclear power engineering, it can be used in the fuel elements (fuel rods) manufacturing to control the alpha contamination reading from the fuel rods. Fuel rods alpha contamination reading automatic control method is in that the fuel rod is fed to its surface with the coarse calico band contacting position, the fuel rod surface is crimped with the band, then the fuel rod is translationally and rotationally fed to its surface with the band contacting position until the smear is obtained, removing the clamping force and moving the band with a spot under the alpha radiometer detection unit. Alpha contamination reading control device comprises frame, on which two feeding and receiving coils with the coarse calico band and with the roller, guide rollers with the strain gage sensor, alpha-radiometer detection unit, and the band to the surface wrapping unit are installed. Device also contains two fuel rod pulling units, consisting of three rollers for the fuel rod translational and rotational feeding.

EFFECT: determination of the fuel rod surface contamination with high degree of reliability, increase in the control speed and possibility of the device integration into the fuel rods integral control automatic line, both smooth and with wire.
