FIELD: radar ranging and radio navigation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nonlinear radar ranging and can be used in development of short-range nonlinear radars that perform remote detection at distances of the order of hundreds of meters of objects of artificial origin, which include military objects. Said technical result is achieved by using a two-frequency probing method with periodic sequence of harmonic oscillations with high duty cycle (at least 10) at two different carrier frequencies ƒ1 and ƒ2, wherein ƒ12<2ƒ1, with simultaneous registration of combination components of second (ƒ12) and third (2ƒ12) of order and second harmonics 2ƒ1 and 2ƒ2 each of sounding signals (SS). At that, carrier frequency ƒ1 of first SS remains constant, and carrier frequency ƒvar2 second SS is slowly tuned with speed of about 10 Hz / s. Device for realizing said method comprises two transmitting devices, four receiving channels and synchronizer with appropriate connections. Simultaneous reception of reflected signal on several components (second harmonics, total combination component of second order and difference combination component of third order) with application at storage processing output of accumulator with threshold device, detecting any fixed small objects of artificial origin regardless of their non-linear element by exceeding the accumulated signal over the threshold in any of the receiving channels.

EFFECT: high probability of detecting small fixed objects of artificial origin, including small-size military objects, regardless of their functional state, environmental conditions and radar background.
