Authentication method comprises steps of including one or more authentication information elements in one or more corresponding frames transmitted between a first device and a second wireless network device, wherein said one or more authentication information elements include data to be used in the authentication procedure to determine that both of the first device and the second device have a common cryptographic key, and wherein the authentication procedure comprises steps of transmitting a first authentication information element from a first device to a second device, transmitting a second authentication information element from a second device to a first device and transmitting a third authentication information element from a first device to a second device.
