FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of sorbents based on natural layered silicates modified with polymers, which can be used for cleaning aqueous media from oil, fuel oil, fuel, higher hydrocarbons. Method involves treating the expanded vermiculite with a hydrophobisating polyethylene solution in xylene taken in an amount which provides a weight ratio of vermiculite: polyethylene 5.0–5.5:1, at a boiling point of xylene for 100–120 minutes. Sorbent is separated from the solution with unreacted polyethylene filtration, dried in air and the filtrate is returned to the process cycle. Polyethylene can be used in the form of production wastes.
EFFECT: technical result is higher environmental safety of the method, reduced amount of wastes and wider range of efficient sorbents for cleaning water from oil and oil products.
