SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an optically variable protective element (12) for protecting valuable items, having substrate (28) with opposite first and second main surfaces and with an optically variable structure (20) on the first main surface, having embossed structure (22) and coating (24). According to the invention, it is provided that coating (24) includes at least one printed linear raster (30) and background layer (26) contrasting with linear raster (30), embossed structure (22) includes a two-dimensional raster of elevating and/or deepened embossed elements (34), coating (24) and embossed structure (22) are combined so that in fact on each embossed element (34) there is at least one linear segment (36) of line (32) of linear raster (30), and at least one of the "linear segment on the embossed element" position parameters, "the linear segment orientation on the embossed element" and "the linear segment shape" varies as to the length of the optically variable structure (20) depending on the location such that the linear raster when protective element (12) is tilted creates a dynamic effect, primarily a pulsation or rotation effect.
EFFECT: disclosed is an optically variable protective element.
