FIELD: cosmetology.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the cosmetic industry, in particular to a method for semi-permanent hair straightening, comprising the following steps, performed in this order: (a) applying a hair straightening composition to hair; (b) holding the composition on hair for 1 to 120 minutes; (c) drying hair; (d) treating hair with an iron for hair straightening, wherein the surface temperature is 180±50 °C; wherein the hair straightening composition has pH of 4 or less and contains glyoxylic acid and/or a hydrate thereof and/or a salt thereof with a total concentration in range of 2.5 to 40 wt% with respect to the total weight of the composition; at least one polymer thickener selected from anionic polymers which are anionic polysaccharides selected from alginate, pectin, hyaluronate, xanthum gum, dehydroxanthum gum, hydroxypropylxanthum gum, gum arabic, karaya gum, tragacanth gum and carboxymethyl cellulose, and in which viscosity is at least 500 mPa⋅s when measured with a Brookfield viscometer in water with a polymer concentration of 1 wt% at 20 °C; and where the hair straightening composition is in form of a thickened solution, gel or emulsion, having a viscosity in range of 1,000 to 25,000 MPa⋅s at measurement at 20 °C Brookfield viscometer.
