FIELD: hair care.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for processing keratin-containing material that includes bringing this material into contact with a composition including alpha-substituted aldehyde of the formula (II), and to a composition for hair care, including from 1 to 30% by wt. of one or more surfactants and one or more alpha-substituted aldehydes of the formula II. Both the method and the composition provide permanent perm and or straightening in mild conditions or provide increased docility and/or combability. The invention also relates to the use of one or more alpha-substituted aldehydes of the formula II

where X is OH, and R is an unsubstituted alkyl group containing from 3 to 30 carbon atoms.
EFFECT: obtaining a composition for hair care.
