FIELD: biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polymer-based antimicrobial compositions. Antimicrobial composition contains: (a) a cationic polymer, (b) at least one adhesion promoter, (c) optionally organic and / or inorganic particles which are photocatalytically active in visible light, and (d) a carrier, wherein components of the composition are not covalently bonded to each other, and the antimicrobial composition corresponds to one or more of the following tests: (i) a germicide spray test according to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) international method E1153, which satisfies the EPA reduction requirement by 3 log for viruses, reduction by 5 log for bacteria, (ii) suspension test according to ASTM international method E1052-96 (2002) or ASTM international method E2315 (2016), (iii) a film formed from the composition destroys (iii-a) at least 95 % of population of 5 log gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria in 30 minutes, (iii-b) at least 95 % of population of 4 log virus with shell within 30 minutes of contact, (iii-c) at least 95 % of virus without shell within 30 minutes of contact, and / or (iii-d) at least 94 % of population of 4 Clostridium difficile bacteria within 24 hours of contact, according to Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) Z 2801 test for antimicrobial activity or a modified version of said test, (iv) a film formed from the composition has value of 2 or less according to the test for cytotoxicity in vitro of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 10993-5, and (v) according to the durability test selected either from (v-a), film formed from the composition destroys at least 99.9 % of gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria according to a test for residual self-disinfection activity of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Protocol # 01-1A, or from (v-b), 7 days after formation of film, film formed from composition destroys at least 95 % of gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria or viruses in shell or without shell according to test for residual self-disinfection activity, modified version of Protocol # 01-1A as described in this document.
EFFECT: invention increases fight against microorganisms.
