FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water filters containing activated carbon with a polymer coating and methods for production thereof. A method of producing coated activated carbon includes producing activated carbon particles having an average particle size of up to 100 mcm and coating the activated carbon particles by spraying droplets of a cationic polymer solution onto the surface of the activated carbon particles, wherein the cationic polymer solution includes about 2 wt % to about 4 wt % of the cationic polymer and the droplet size is between about 15 mcm to about 55 mcm, wherein the cationic polymer contains polydiallydimethylammonium chloride (pDADMAC), having the weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of up to about 200000 g/mol and the number-average molecular weight (Mn) of up to about 100000 g/mol.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain filters with the improved capability of removing impurities.
