FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to systems and methods of depositing a catalytic coating on one or more outer surfaces of a catalyst support. Installation for application of external coating on monolithic catalyst carrier comprises feeding system and unloading system. Besides, the plant comprises at least one conveyor motor, functionally connected to the supply system and/or unloading system, for the supply system drive and the unloading system with the specified speed, as well as the engine controller, electrically connected to said at least one conveyor motor to maintain preset feed rate provided by said engine. Apparatus also comprises a liquid coating applicator mounted between the feed system and the unloading system and comprising an inner core and an outer absorbent material having a defined height, and a bath for liquid coating material installed under said applicator, which has a configuration and dimensions, providing for the applicator to enter into it completely along the length, and in which liquid coating material is retained, bath for liquid coating material is installed vertically so that absorbent material of applicator is at least partially submerged into liquid coating material. Besides, the plant comprises a system for feeding liquid coating material, which includes a reservoir for liquid coating material and a pump for pumping of said material, which is connected and communicated with said reservoir with the possibility of passage of fluid medium between them through the pump pipeline. Pump is also connected and communicated with bath for liquid coating material with possibility of fluid passage between them along supply pipeline. Reservoir for liquid coating material is connected and communicated with bath for liquid coating material with possibility of fluid passage between them along return pipeline so that bath and reservoir can maintain preset level of liquid coating material in bath. Liquid quantity sensor is functionally connected to the bath for the liquid coating material and is electrically connected to a controller capable of receiving an electrical signal from the sensor and determining the need to switch on the pump for feeding additional liquid coating material to maintain a given liquid level in the bath. Fluid quantity sensor is a balance functionally connected to a bath for a liquid coating material and capable of determining the amount of material in the bath and to transmit commands to pump for additional liquid coating material to bath, when measured value of weight falls below preset value. Installation for application of external coating on monolithic catalyst carrier contains feeding system made with possibility of transportation of monolithic catalyst carrier to applicator of liquid coating material for application of external coating, and unloading system configured to receive a monolithic catalyst support from applicator of liquid coating material and transportation of monolithic catalyst carrier from applicator of liquid coating material. Plant also comprises at least one conveyor motor, functionally connected to supply system and/or unloading system, for drive of supply system and unloading system at preset speed, engine controller electrically connected to said at least one conveyor motor to maintain preset feed rate provided by said engine, and a liquid coating material applicator installed between the feeding system and the unloading system and comprising an inner core and an external absorbent material having a defined height. Besides, the installation contains a bath for a liquid coating material installed under the specified applicator, which has a configuration and dimensions ensuring the applicator to enter into it completely along the length, and in which liquid coating material is retained, bath for liquid coating material is installed vertically so that absorbent material of applicator is at least partially submerged into liquid coating material. Apparatus also comprises a light source and an optical sensor. One or several light beams passing from the light source to the optical sensor are provided along the light path crossing the applicator and passing above the horizontal plane of the conveyors of the supply and unloading systems and below the upper edge of the absorbent material of the applicator at a predetermined height so that the applicator initially overlaps one or more light beams. It is ensured that one or more light beams crossing the absorbent material of the applicator are not overlapped by it when the height of the absorbent material is reduced by a given value. Method of coating a monolithic catalyst support includes providing an apparatus, applying a liquid coating material to an applicator of a liquid coating material, holding a monolithic catalyst support in a feed system, so that the conveyor motor imparts to the monolithic catalyst carrier movement at a predetermined rate, facilitating passage of the monolith catalyst support relative to said applicator at a predetermined rate, so that some amount of liquid coating material is transferred from applicator to outer surface of monolithic catalyst carrier, which comes into contact with applicator, and determining whether the light beam is overlapped by the applicator, and the adjustable height change of the applicator to the corrected height if it is determined that the light beam does not overlap.
EFFECT: technical result of group of inventions is to reduce or eliminate deposition of soot and scale on edges of holes, resulting in preventing clogging of media cells.
